Accomplished Girl is proving to be one of the better female turf sprinters in the Midwest after she notched yet another Stakes victory on the lawn, this time taking the $100,000 Robert ‘Bobby’ Kelly Memorial Stakes by three-quarters of a length at Fair Grounds on Saturday, 1 February.
The victory was the second Stakes score of the meet for the five-year-old Street Boss mare. She captured the Pan Zareta Stakes going the same 5.5 furlongs in December. Accomplished Girl’s biggest Stakes win so far has come in the G2 Presque Isle Downs Masters as a three-year-old.
Ridden by Jose Ortiz for trainer Steve Asmussen, Accomplished Girl broke alertly but was content to track from second, sitting just off the flank of the aptly named Speedy Traveler, who posted a swift opening quarter of :22.94. Accomplished Girl continued to track Speedy Traveler from the rail until tipping out at the quarter pole and setting off for her longtime target. Accomplished Girl reeled in Speedy Traveler in the closing strides to get the victory.
Accomplished Girl was bred in Kentucky by Jack Swain III, and is out of the Twirling Candy mare, Dazzle, a full sister to Exaulted, winner of the G1 Shoemaker Mile.
Street Boss is the sire of nine G1 winners, headed by former champion Australian galloper Anamoe – who won nine races at racing’s highest level. He is also represented by Another Wil, winner of the G2 Damien Oliver Stakes at Flemington in November.
