Darley, which will be standing 28 stallions in Australia in 2008, has set its fees for the upcoming breeding season.
Champion sprinter and Australia’s leading first-season sire Exceed And Excel will head the roster. Exceed And Excel, who has enjoyed a phenomenal season with his first crop of two-year-olds and has sired five individual Stakes winners to date, will stand for $110,000 (inc. GST).
Returning to Australia from America in 2008 are Elusive Quality, sire of 2007 G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes winner, Camarilla, who will stand for $82,500 (inc.GST); the World Champion of 2006 Bernardini, who will stand for $55,000 (inc. GST) and new addition Street Sense, the Eclipse Champion two-year-old who went on to rewrite history by winning the Run for the Roses, who will also stand for $55,000 (inc.GST).
Joining Bernardini and Street Sense as first-season stallions this year are Hard Spun, the undefeated two-year-old and best sprinter in the world in 2007 ($33,000 inc. GST); 2006 World Champion sprinter, Henny Hughes ($27,500 inc. GST); Any Given Saturday, one of America’s best three-year-olds of 2007 ($22,000 inc.GST) and Librettist, the dual G1-winning son of exceptional sire of sires, Danzig ($22,000 inc. GST).
With the news that Darley has received approval to purchase Woodlands Stud, Darley will complement its existing roster with eight formidable stallions who are already very familiar to Australasian breeders. Included are Danehill’s top ten leading sire son Commands who will stand at $66,000 (inc.GST) and Lonhro, second only to Exceed And Excel with his number of first-crop black type two-year-olds, who will stand for $55,000 (inc.GST).
Announcing Darley’s fees, general manager Oliver Tait said, “Sheikh Mohammed’s goal is to stand the world’s best stallions. Our roster for 2008 is our best ever and it has extraordinary strength and depth. Our six new stallions form the best credentialed and most exciting line-up of young stallions we’ve ever offered. We are also thrilled to be welcoming the Woodlands stallions and clients to Darley. The stallions really do complement our roster as they offer some of the finest Australian pedigrees to breeders.
“We continue to be committed to offering our clients exceptional stallions at very reasonable fees. Our prices afford our clients the chance to produce top-class horses at minimum cost and our payment terms and free transport will continue to make breeding to the Darley stallions as rewarding as possible.”
The Woodlands stallions will remain standing at their current locations in 2008.
Manduro, who was previously earmarked to shuttle, will unfortunately not travel to Australia this season to enable him to fully recover from the racing injury he sustained last year.
