Cylinder takes Newmarket just like Exceed And Excel

Powerful perfomance in the world’s highest-rated G1 sprint

Cylinder (Exceed And Excel) emulated his Champion Sire Exceed And Excel 20 years ago and secured his place on the Darley stallion roster when he notched his first G1 victory in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington on Saturday, 9 March.

Just a few days after Darley announced Exceed And Excel’s retirement from stud duties, Cylinder burst down the centre of the Flemington straight to beat champion sprinter Imperatriz by 1.25 lengths.

Jockey Jamie Kah rode the three-year-old to perfection as the colt claimed his fifth win at Stakes level and lifted his prize money earnings to $3,691,740.

Cylinder covered the distance in a fast 1 minute 8.83 seconds and added the Newmarket to his Black-Type victories in the Vain Stakes, Todman Stakes, Run To The Rose and Silver Slipper.

Cylinder is out of Circular, who is also the dam of dual G3 winner Parisal (Astern).

The mare has also produced a yearling filly by Bivouac (Sphere) and a weanling colt by Brazen Beau.
