G3 victory for unbeaten Lonhro colt

Sweynesse leads home Darley-sired trifecta in Spring Stakes

Three-year-old Lonhro colt Sweynesse remained unbeaten with a strong win, leading home a Darley-sired trifecta, in the G3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle over 1600m, September 17.

A Kembla Grange maiden winner on debut back in May, Sweynesse resumed from a spell with a last-to-first win in Saturday grade at Rosehill last month. Sent out favourite in his first try at Stakes level, the striking colt did not let his supporters down, again coming with a strong finishing burst to defeat Pounamu (Authorized) and Monteux (Medaglia d'Oro).

Bred by Darley, Sweynesse is the first Australian-based Stakes winner for Godolphin. He is the second foal to race and first winner for the metropolitan-winning Singspiel mare Swansea.

Sweynesse is the 45th Stakes winner and 25th Group winner for Lonhro whose G1 winners include Darley stallions Denman and Benfica, as well as Champion two-year-old Pierro and Champion New Zealand sprinter Bounding.

Lonhro is standing at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST alongside Denman ($33,000 inc. GST) and Benfica ($6,600 inc. GST).
