Medaglia d'Oro sires second Stakes winner on the day

Mshawish much the best in El Prado Stakes at Gulfstream

It was a hot afternoon for Medaglia d'Oro December 13. Just moments after the sire's four-year-old son Micromanage won the Queens County Stakes at Aqueduct, Medaglia d'Oro sired a second Stakes winner as Mshawish came away a clear winner of the El Prado Stakes at Gulfstream. A Black-type winner in three countries, Mshawish was a winner of the G2 Zabeel Mile at Meydan earlier this year and captured the Listed Prix de Tourgeville at Deauville as a three-year-old.

Sent off as the 8-5 favorite in the seven-and-one-half-furlong turf race, Mshawish traveled five lengths off the pace in sixth. Moving into the far turn the colt came into contention for the lead on the outside, then stormed down the lane to seal the win.

Bred in Kentucky by OTIF 2007, four-year-old Mshawish is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Thunder Bayou, a half-sister to Stakes winners Meteorologist and Bayou Breeze, the dam of Stakes winner Branded.

Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of 17 Stakes winners to date in 2014. They include G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Lochte, G1 Just A Game Stakes winner Coffee Clique, two-time Stakes winner and talented runner Atreides, and G2 Monmouth Cup winner Valid, among others. The sire is best know for his legendary Horse Of The Year daughter Rachel Alexandra, and other top runners for the sire include another G1 Kentucky Oaks winner in Plum Pretty, G1-winning turf mare Marketing Mix, and G1 CashCall Futurity winner Violence.

Medaglia d'Oro will be represented by nine yearlings at January's Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast and a further seven yearlings for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale to be held in Melbourne during March.
