Fasig-Tipton sale sees strong showing by Darley sires

Three of four highest-priced broodmares in-foal to Bernardini

In a year in which he has sired his second consecutive Travers winner in Alpha and additional G1 winner To Honor And Serve, the popularity of Bernardini continued at Fasig-Tipton Company’s “The November Sale” in Lexington, Kentucky, on November 5.

Of all mares listed as “pregnant” in the catalog, three of the top four prices were paid for those in-foal to Bernardini, highlighted by Street Cry’s G1-winning daughter Cry And Catch Me. Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, the talented mare was knocked down for US$3.5 million and was taken home by Live Oak Plantation. Cry And Catch Me has a 2012 weanling sired by Medaglia d'Oro.

Sold just four hips before, Pilfer, dam of Bernardini’s multiple G1 winner To Honor and Serve, sold to Stud TNT for US$1.95 million. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, Agent, history could very well repeat as the mare is once again in-foal to Bernardini thus carrying a full sibling to To Honor And Serve. Pilfer’s 2012 weanling is also by Bernardini.

The third seven-figure price paid for a mare in-foal to Bernardini was the US$1.75 million paid for the G1 winner Santa Teresita. Shadai Farm signed the ticket for the mare which was consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent.

Two offerings with Medaglia d’Oro’s name listed on the catalog page also sold well. The first, a filly consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, was hammered down for US$620,000. Out of the aforementioned Street Cry mare Cry And Catch Me, the dark bay or brown weanling was purchased by Live Oak Plantation. Five hips later, the dam of G1 winner Dixie Chatter and multiple Stakes winner Rumor, sold in-foal to Medaglia d’Oro for US$600,000. Also consigned by Bluewater Sales, LLC, the mare was purchased by Royal Oak Farm, agent.

The trio of world class stallions Street Cry, Medaglia d'Oro and Bernardini are all standing the current southern hemisphere season at Darley Kelvinside, at a fee of $110,000, $77,000 and $55,000 (inc. GST) respectively.
