Harry Angel colt Buggsy returned to winning form with a tenacious victory in the G3 Red Anchor Stakes (1,200m) at Flemington on Saturday, 24 October.
Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Buggsy made full use of a narrow run along the inside to defeat stablemate The Speed Machine by a long neck.
The victory was his third from six starts and his first at Stakes level, making him the 25th individual Stakes winner for Harry Angel.
Buggsy was headed for a spell following his unplaced run in the G2 Danehill Stakes, but connections elected to continue his campaign and target the Red Anchor. The addition of blinkers also helped the three-year-old return to his best.
“Rather than be in the paddock, he’s now a G3 winner,” Price said.
The stable will now consider backing Buggsy up in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes over the same course and distance.
Bred by Aaron Bott and Bamboo Bloodstock, Buggsy is out of the Foxwedge mare Miss Severina, a half-sister to dual Group winner Brave Song.
He was purchased for $80,000 by Flying Start Syndications and Pinhook Bloodstock at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale before being sold to Price Kent Racing for $300,000 at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale.
Harry Angel’s four G1 winners, Tom Kitten, Private Harry, War Machine and Angel Capital, were all bred in Australia.
Harry Angel stands at Kelvinside for $88,000 including GST.
