Calamari Ring made the perfect start to her career when she produced a determined performance to win the RL Inglis Banner over 1,000m at Flemington on Saturday, 8 November.
Trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Ethan Brown, the Street Boss filly settled just off the speed before launching strongly inside the final 200 metres to wear down Streisand and score by a head, with Bohemian Rhapsody two lengths away in third.
The win came off the back of two solid jump-outs at Cranbourne, the latest against older opposition, and Calamari Ring showed the benefit of that grounding to stop the clock at 1 minute 0.71 seconds on a Soft 7 surface.
Bred by Two Bays Farm from the Exceed And Excel mare Excelsior Island, Calamari Ring was purchased by Hall Of Fame and Shane McGrath Bloodstock for $140,000 at the 2024 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale. She has an older half-sister by Blue Point named Mariner Miss and earned $252,649 for her debut success.
Her sire Street Boss continues his exceptional run of form, with 3,161 winners worldwide and progeny earnings exceeding A$174 million. His recent headline acts include outstanding filly Tempted, runner-up in the The Everest, and brilliant colt Tentyris, winner of the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.
Street Boss stands at Darley’s Northwood Park, Victoria, for a service fee of $66,000 inc GST.
