Ranier adds to Lonhro’s record with G3 Flemington win

Classy colt victorious in Carbine Club Stakes

Undoubted natural ability and patience have earned the Lonhro colt Ranier the most important success of his career in the G3 Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, 3 November.

It took Ranier six starts to discard his maiden status with a Listed win at Caulfield last month, but only one more run to establish himself as an autumn classic prospect with his latest victory.

The success also rewarded the patience of trainer James Cummings whose belief in the colt never wavered.

“I still think he’s three months away from being the complete racehorse,” Cummings said.

“But he’s really starting to put it together and he’s looking like a Guineas colt in the autumn.”

Ranier enjoyed the run of the race behind the leader before taking a run at the 300m and dashing clear.

In a hard-fought finish he held off Wild Planet, a son of Darley’s Animal Kingdom to win by a head.

Ranier, one of Lonhro’s 77 Stakes winners, is out of the Stakes-winning Commands mare Kanzan.

Lonhro stands at Kelvinside, NSW at a fee of A$55,000, including GST.
