Wawail Remains Unbeaten

Lonhro filly Wawail Claims the Listed City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes

A winner of her only two starts prior to heading to the races for her third, Lonhro filly Wawail remained unbeaten, claiming the Listed City Of Greater Dandenong Stakes over 1400m at Sandown to become the 47th Stakes winner for her sire.

Jumping to the lead from barrier five, jockey Michael Walker maintained a steady pace and when challenge by Muscovado, he took a position back in second. Regaining the lead along the rail as the field headed for home, the three-year-old filly skipped clear before holding off the late charge of the favourite Wine Tails who came from well back in the field.

Bred by Shadwell Stud Australasia Ltd, Wawail is the first Stakes winner for the G2-winning Redoute’s Choice mare El Daana, who has a yearling filly by World Champion Three-year-old Sprinter Sepoy.

The sire of 47 Stakes winners highlighted by the G1 winners Pierro, Beaded, Bounding as well as the Darley stallions Denman and Benfica, Lonhro is standing at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc. GST) alongside his sons Denman at $33,000 (inc. GST) and Benfica at $6,600 (inc. GST).

With the release of the 2015 Magic Millions Yearling Sale catalogue recently, Lonhro will be represented by five yearlings, while Denman has a large draft of 24 yearlings catalogued.
