A very happy new year for Medaglia d’Oro

Sires third Stakes winner of the year in Aqueduct’s Jazil

Medaglia d'Oro's Micromanage started off 2015 just as he ended 2014 in winning a Stakes race over Aqueduct’s inner dirt track. The Jazil Stakes on January 9th, at one mile and seventy yards, was just a bit shorter than the December 14th one and one-eighth mile Queen’s County Stakes but the result was the same; a strong, come-from-behind victory for the just-turned five-year-old.

In the Jazil, Micromanage was last of six after three quarters, not all that surprising as he normally comes from off the pace. He methodically passed horses down the stretch, angled out at the eighth pole, and then drew off to win by one and three quarters of a length.

Bred by Fiona Craig and Dermot Cantillon, well-bred Micromanage is out of multiple Stakes-winning mare Catnip, herself a half-sister to Champion Hold That Tiger and Classic winner Editor's Note. Micromanage is a half-brother to Graded Stakes winner Indescribable and Stakes winner Elaflaak. As a three-year-old, Micromanage was a winner of the Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth and also placed in the G1 Haskell Invitational.

In 2015, Medaglia d'Oro  is also represented by G2 Ft. Lauderdale Handicap winner Mshawish and Notte d’Oro who became his sire’s 65th and newest stakes winner when taking the Marie G. Krantz Memorial Handicap winner at the Fair Grounds on January 17th.  The sire of 11 G1 winners, Medaglia d'Oro's most notable runners last year included G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Lochte and G1 Just A Game winner Coffee Clique. Other G1 winners for the sire include Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, G1-winning turf specialist Marketing Mix, and G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty.
