Trenchant digs deep to claim maiden Stakes victory

Son of Medaglia d'Oro wins the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final at Flemington

Medaglia d’Oro two-year-old colt Trenchant showed great courage to claim his maiden Stakes victory in the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final Handicap over 1600m at Flemington on July 9.

A step up in weight and distance from a previous last start win at Flemington, the impressive colt settled off the speed to find cover in the opening stages of the race. Trenchant kept finding and fought on strongly when challenged by late-closer Futura in the final 50 metres, saluting by a nose for jockey Craig Williams.

A half-brother to Stakes winners Bello (Exceed And Excel) and Emblem (Shamardal), Trenchant is a homebred for Darley and out of the unraced mare Cara Bella who is in foal to Sidestep this season. The son of Medaglia d’Oro also hails from an impressive family of European Champions including Kirklees, Mastery and Magic Artist.

Medaglia d’Oro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST, alongside Exceed And Excel who will also stand at $110,000 inc. GST, while his son Sidestep will stand for $11,000 inc. GST.
