Soul Driver streaks to victory at Santa Anita

Son of Street Boss impressive in first Stakes win

What appeared to be an overly competitive race on paper turned into a bit of a romp as Street Boss’s three-year-old son, Soul Driver, drew off in the stretch to win by five lengths in Santa Anita’s Singletary Stakes on June 20th.

In his usual running style, Soul Driver was in no hurry to press the pace and left the early fractions to the frontrunners through the first seven furlongs. Once the field reached the top of the stretch it appeared to be anyone’s race but when jockey Gary Stevens asked him for run, Soul Driver responded well and pulled away from the field for an impressive victory.

Bred by John R. Penn in Kentucky, Soul Driver is out of a half-sister to the dam of Victor’s Cry, a G1-winning son of former Darley sire Street Cry, sire of Street Boss.

Street Boss continues to be a prolific source of high-quality runners illustrated in part by G1 Danza and Capo Bastone. In 2015, other sophomore son, Metaboss, was victorious in the G3 Camino Real Derby, and two-year-old stakes-winning son Decked Out has pushed him near the top of the earnings list among all juvenile sires.

Street Boss will stand the upcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at Northwood Park at a fee of $11,000 (inc. GST).
