Second Stakes win for son of Exceed And Excel

Reparations records MSS Security Sprint victory

Making his debut up the Flemington straight, Exceed And Excel gelding Reparations started first-up in the Listed MSS Security Sprint and produced an enormous effort to take the race by a length-and-a-quarter.

A winner of the Listed Anniversary Vase over 1400m two starts back, Reparations settled towards the back of the large field, and with Irish jockey Wayne Lordan in the saddle, who is here to ride Slade Power on Saturday, Reparations made a sustained run to reach the lead with a furlong to go and although drifting towards the inside rail, he proved too strong.

Bred by Darley in Australia, Reparations is out of the Listed–winning Red Ransom mare Hold To Ransom. The dam of the G3-winning, multiple G1 placed Retrieve as well as the Listed winner Abduction (Street Cry) who is set to start one of the favoured runner in Thursday’s G1 Victorian Oaks (2500m), Hold To Ransom has a yearling filly by Sepoy and is due to foal this season to Darley America stallion Animal Kingdom.

The sire of 87 Stakes winners highlighted by G1 winners Overreach, Earthquake, Excelebration, Amber Sky and Helmet, Exceed And Excel is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 (inc. GST) while his sons Helmet and Kuroshio stand at $33,000 (inc. GST) and $8,800 (inc. GST) respectively at Northwood Park in Victoria.
