Second Stakes victory for big-hitting son of Teofilo

Trading Leather lands competitive Silver Stakes, will now aim for the Irish Derby

Trading Leather, from the second crop of Teofilo, has been a consistent campaigner for his sire and on 9 June he added a second victory at Black type level when winning a competitive renewal of the Listed Silver Stakes at The Curragh.

Jim Bolger’s colt raced somewhat keenly during the early stages of the ten-furlong contest but once he settled into his stride, travelled superbly under Kevin Manning and taking the lead two furlongs from home, stormed clear to win by three and a half lengths from UAE Derby winner Lines Of Battle.

Trading Leather won the G3 Autumn Stakes at two and finished second in the Dante Stakes (behind New Approach’s subsequent Derby second Libertarian), before taking third in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas. He will now head for the Irish Derby, due to take place on 29 June.

Bred by Jim Bolger, Trading Leather is out of the unraced Sinndar mare Night Visit and is from the family of multiple G1 winner Hatoof and Breeders’ Cup Mile victor Irish Prize.

Teofilo has sired no fewer than 17 Black type performers so far this year, including multiple G2 winner Amira’s Prince and German Derby contender Leofilo. He stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $22,000 including GST.
