Savings Account rallies to win the Esplanade Stakes

Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro earns first Stakes victory in eight-furlong contest

Savings Account dueled with longtime leader Tiz Lately in the stretch before putting that rival away and drawing off to a one-length victory in the Esplanade Stakes at Fair Grounds March 18.

It was the first Stakes victory for the five-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, who improved her record to four wins, three seconds, and three third-place finishes in fifteen lifetime starts.

Bred in Kentucky by Dell Ridge Farm LLC, Savings Account is out of Wild Hoots, a Stakes-winning daughter of Unbridled’s Song. Wild Hoots is a full sister to Buddha, winner of the G1 Wood Memorial.

Medaglia d’Oro was the sire of 29 Stakes winners in 2015 including Eclipse Champion juvenile filly Songbird, G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, and Mshawish, winner of the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. In 2016, Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of Graded Stakes winners Mshawish, winner of the G1 Donn Handicap, Songbird, winner of the G2 Las Virgenes and G3 Santa Ysabel, and Astern, winner of the G2 Silver Slipper in Australia.
