Queen Of The South to Goon Serpent

Four-year-old Reset mare becomes the 11th Stakes winner for her dual G1-winning sire

After a last start third at Listed level, the David Jolly-trained four-year-old Reset mare Goon Serpent registered her first career Stakes win, capturing the G2 Queen Of The South Stakes at Morphettville, defeating race favourite Lady Lynette.

Jumping away well from the gates and settling mid-field, jockey Nick Hall allowed the mare to amble up to the leaders with her light weight as the field turned for home. Registering her fourth career win from 10 starts, Goon Serpent is one of eight individual Stakes winners for her dual G1-winning sire Reset so far this season.

Bred by Mr MA Pitt of NSW, Goon Serpent is out of the Bluebird mare Blue Capri and comes from the family of G1 winner Capricious Lass and G2 winners Capichi and Mercurial Madam.

The leading Victorian-based sire of Stakes winners this season, Reset was also represented earlier in the day when his dual Stakes-winning three-year-old filly Pinker Pinker finished a gallant third in the G1 AJC Oaks at Royal Randwick.

Also at Morhphetville, three-year-old Domesday gelding Backgammon finished third at Listed level, while honest sprinter Pinwheel (Lonhro) finished third at G3 level.
