Pierro Claims NSW Two-year-old of the Year

Lonhro’s unbeaten son wins NSW Racehorse Owners Association award

Having already been crowned the Champion Racehorse and Champion Two-year-old at the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association (HTBA) awards in mid-May, unbeaten Lonhro colt Pierro was last night named the NSW Two-year-old of the Year at the NSW Racehorse Owners Association annual awards that were held at the Pavilion, Rosehill Gardens.

A winner of the Two-year-old triple Crown, Pierro was bred by Darley and is out of the Daylami mare Miss Right Note, who produced a full-sister to Pierro in 2011 and is set to foal to Street Cry in the coming weeks.

Pierro will make his first public appearance on August 18 with an exhibition gallop between races at Rosehill Gardens before a likely first up run in the coming weeks. Being primedto emulate his sire and win the G1 Caulfield Guineas,  the plan at this stage is for Pierro to then progress onto the weight-for-age championship of Australasia, the G1 WS Cox Plate two weeks later.

The sire of 33 Stakes winners including G1 winners Denman and Benfica, who will both stand along their sire at $33,000 (inc. GST) and $11,000 (inc. GST) respectively, Lonhro will stand forthcoming breeding season at Kelvinside for a fee of $110,000 (inc. GST).
