Medaglia d'Oro yearlings in high demand again at Saratoga

Sire of two $500,000 plus lots on first night of sale

With 18 Stakes winners in 2015, it's not surprising that offspring of Medaglia d'Oro continue to draw attention at the major yearling sales around the world.

On the first night of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale, two yearling colts brought prices of $585,000 and $500,000. Al Shaqab Racing went for the higher priced offering, a full brother to Medaglia d'Oro's G1-winning daughter Gabby's Golden Gal. Sold as lot 88, the colt is also a half-brother to three-time G2 winner/G1-placed Always A Princess and was sold by Eaton Sales. Mandy Pope found a new home for the $500,000 yearling, the first foal out of G2 winner Dancinginherdreams, from the Gainesway consignment.

Bernardini was well represented through lot number 36, the first foal out of the Stakes-place Arch mare Arch Support. John Ferguson, acting on the behalf of Sheikh Mohammed, went to $450,000 for the filly sold by Eaton Sales, Agent.

Gone but not forgotten, the ill-fated Street Cry rang the bell once again as lot number 73 sold for $550,000 with John Ferguson again signing the ticket. The yearling colt is a full brother to the $1.4 million-dollar earner Zaidan. Gainesway was the consignor.

Two foals from the second Northern Hemisphere crop sired by Darley Australia-based Lonhro were very well received bringing prices of over $200,000. Lot 97, out of a half-sister to four Graded Stakes winners, was purchased by Matthew Shera for $255,000 late in the sale. The colt hailed from the Hidden Brook consignment. Earlier in the night, lot 18 was hammered down for $230,000 with John Ferguson signing. Consigned by Meadowlark Valley Sales Agency, the yearling filly is a half to three Stakes horses, including two Stakes winners.

The sale continues on Tuesday.
