Lonhro sets new Australian record

Cilla's Choice becomes her sire's 156th winner for the season

A record-breaker on the racetrack, Lonhro has become a record-breaker at stud also. His three-year-old daughter Cilla’s Choice became his 156th individual winner for the season with her maiden victory at Geelong, July 17.

The previous Australian record of 155 winners was held in part by Lonhro’s long-term barn mate Commands, who sadly died five days ago. Fittingly, Commands featured in Lonhro’s record-breaking win with Cilla’s Choice being out of his daughter Constanza.

Having finished runner-up in two of her first three starts, Cilla’s Choice easily accounted for another daughter of Lonhro in Long Shadow in the 1000m maiden.

Australia’s Champion stallion for the 2010/11 racing season, Lonhro is the sire of six G1 winners including fellow Darley stallions Denman and Benfica. Among his seven Stakes winners this season are G1-winning New Zealand filly Bounding and G1-placed sprinter Sessions, while two-year-old colt Kumaon and evergreen gelding Pinwheel were also placed at G1 level throughout the season.

Lonhro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST, alongside Denman ($33,000 inc. GST) and Benfica ($6,600 inc. GST).
