Lonhro’s ultra-consistent daughter Beaded adds her second Black type win

New G1 performers for Dubawi, Reset and Shamardal; first Stakes horse for first-season sire Domesday

Leading third-season sire Lonhro, who added two new Black type winners to his impressive record just last weekend, further increased his number of Stakes wins for the season when his daughter Beaded took the Listed Turnpoint Wenona Girl Handicap at Randwick on Saturday.

The four-year-old has been a model of consistency for her sire, notching seven wins and two places from nine starts, including a previous win at Listed level in the Yalumba Wines Cup at Hawkesbury last November. Beaded could now aim for G1 glory, with the Winter Stakes, due to take place in Brisbane in June, highlighted as a possible target.

Also at Randwick, Shamardal (pictured) added a new G1 performer when Captain Sonador ran on strongly having experienced traffic problems at the 300m mark to take third in the Guineas, finishing just a length behind the winner. Shamardal, also sire of G1 winner Faint Perfume, has recorded four Stakes winners and a further six Stakes placegetters so far this season.

Earlier on the same card Pressday, one of three winners to date for first-season sire Domesday, gained his first Black type when third in the G3 Skyline Stakes while Commands was resposible for two Group-placed horses, Dorf Command, who was runner-up in the G2 Ascend Sales Challenge Stakes and Deltona, who was third in the G3 Randwick City Stakes.

At Flemington, the rescheduled G1 Australian Guineas saw classy Reset filly Set For Fame put up a magnificent performance against her male counterparts to finish second. Winner of the G2 Armanasco Stakes last start, Set For Fame has now won or placed in six of her seven career starts. Earlier that day, Curtana, by Exceed And Excel, also gained black type when finishing second in the Listed Street Ice Cream Stakes.

Further afield, Dubawi’s multiple Stakes winner Cellarmaster was beaten just a head in the G1 Auckland Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie, New Zealand. Previously winner of the G3 Eclipse Stakes and the Listed Wentwood Grange Stakes, Cellarmaster has finished out of the money just once in eight starts.
