Legendary blows past them in G3 Knickerbocker Stakes

Son of Exceed And Excel wins second in a row, at Belmont

A winner of the Japan Racing Stakes at Laurel Park last time out, five-year-old Legendary (Exceed And Excel) continued his winning ways October 11 to take the G3 Knickerbocker Stakes at Belmont Park.

In the one-and-one-eighth-mile turf race Legendary was six-lengths off the pace along the backstretch. In third around the far turn, he took aim for the lead at the head of the stretch and couldn't be caught to capture the win.

The Knickerbocker marks the fourth win on the year for Legendary since traveling to the US in April. Bred by Genesis Green Stud Ltd., Legendary is out of the multiple Listed winner Red Carnation, a half-sister to Listed winner and multiple G1-placed Red Fort.

Exceed And Excel is the sire of 87 Stakes winners lifetime, among them G1 winners Excelebration, Outstrip, Darley stallion Helmet, and more. Legendary is the second Black type winner on the day for Exceed And Excel, as daughter Earthquake took the G3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield.

Exceed And Excel is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 (inc. GST) while his sons Helmet and Kuroshio stand at $33,000 (inc. GST) and $8,800 (inc. GST) respectively at Northwood Park in Victoria.
