Leaps and bounds ahead of rivals

Lonhro filly Bounding easily wins G3 Hawke's Bay Breeders' Stakes

G1-placed behind Champion Bernardini juvenile Ruud Awakening last preparation, Lonhro filly Bounding remained unbeaten as a three-year-old with a dominant win in the G3 Hawke’s Bay Breeders’ Stakes over 1200m at Hastings in New Zealand, September 21.

It was the second Stakes victory for Bounding who also won the Listed Newell Stakes as a two-year-old.

Sent out a short-priced favourite for the Breeders’ Stakes following a comfortable first-up win as a three-year-old at Taupo, Bounding again proved far too good for her rivals, winning by a length.

Bred by Michael Birchall, Bounding is the first foal out of the Darley-bred G3-winning Exceed And Excel mare Believe ‘N’ Succeed, a sister to last Saturday’s G2 winner Kuroshio and Listed winner Agulhas. Believe ‘N’ Succeed’s second foal is a Street Cry colt born seven days ago.

Bounding is the 21st Group winner for Lonhro who is the sire of G1 winners and Darley stallions Denman and Benfica as well as Pierro, Beaded and Mental.

Lonhro is standing the current breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST alongside Denman who stands at $27,500 inc. GST and Benfica at $6,600 inc. GST.
