Kuro claims Mick Dittman Plate

Son of Denman wins third Stakes race

Third at G1 level in the Spring behind Brazen Beau, followed by a second at G1 level two starts back during The Championships, Denman three-year-old Kuro travelled to Brisbane and appreciated the drop back to his own age, winning the Listed Mick Dittman Plate over 1200m.

Charging across the pack after jumping from gate 14 in the 15 horse field, jockey Craig Williams positioned Kuro in the lead with co-race favourite Miss Cover Girl sitting on his inside.

As Miss Cover Girl rallied along the rail to take the lead rounding the home bend, Kuro found and extended to take the lead, surging away to hold off the late charge of Lonhro gelding Sarajevo.

Foaled in New Zealand, Kuro was bred by Nearco Stud Limited and is out of the Stakes-placed Orientate mare Distinctive Lass, from the family of multiple G1 winners Bomber Bill and Special.

Kuro is one of eight Stakes performer for Lonhro’s G1-winning son Denman, joining recent G3 winner Fitocracy as well as fellow Stakes winners Law, Pinch River and Shigeru Sendan.

Denman will stand the forthcoming breeding season at Kelvinside for a fee of $27,500 (inc. GST), while his sire Lonhro stands at a fee of $88,000 (inc. GST).
