Hurdy Gurdy Man too classy in Hobart Cup

Having never been out of a place at the distance, the Darren Weir-trained Hurdy Gurdy Man became the 61st Stakes winner for his sire Street Cry with an impressive performance over the 2400m of the G3 Hobart Cup.

Jumping away the race favourite due to his excellent recent form, jockey Glen Boss had the entire settled on the fence in a mid-field position throughout the run. As the field headed for the home, he searched for a gap and was checked quite badly, appearing to lose all momentum. Boss managed to get Hurdy Gurdy Man going again, and he chased down the leaders to score with ease.

Bred by Mr E Shakespeare of Victoria, Hurdy Gurdy Man is out of the Bluebird mare Abalone, a half-sister to the Queensland Listed-winning, G1 placed Perfect Paradise.

The sire of 13 G1 winners internationally highlighted by Champion mare Zenyatta, Darley stallions Street Sense and Street Boss, as well as Australian G1 winners Whobegotyou and Shocking, Street Cry will be represented by three yearlings at the forthcoming Inglis Premier yearling sale and a further 15 yearlings have been catalogued for the Inglis Easter yearling sale in April.
