Henny Hughes moves into gear

Lil Red Corvette becomes the second Australian winner for her record-breaking sire

Henny Hughes two-year-old filly Lil Red Corvette returned to racing to claim the Swift Signs Handicap under lights at Moonee Valley over 1000m on 3 February.

Stakes-placed at her first start in the spring, Lil Red Corvette joins fellow winner, Bertie's Bell, as the flag bearers for their sire. Made to work throughout the race, the speedy filly scored by the barest of margins but looks to have a bright future ahead of her.

Bred in partnership by Contract Racing and N & G Psaltis of Victoria, Lil Red Corvette is out of the five-time-winning Testa Rossa mare Speedy Rossa. The mare has a Bernardini yearling, and was covered by leading Victorian-based sire Reset in the last breeding season.

G1-winning sprinter Henny Hughes is the sire of nine Stakes horses from his first two crops of runners in the northern hemisphere which includes three-year-olds such as the G3 winner Henny Hound and Stakes winners Fort Hughes and Midnight Visit, while his two-year-old crop includes G3 winner She Digs Me and Stakes horses My Due Process, Swift Artist and Play Eighteen.

Henny Hughes has two yearlings catalogued for the forthcoming Perth Magic Millions yearling sale, while five yearlings have been catalogued for the Inglis Premier yearling sale at the end of February, which will no doubt create a lot of interest when they go through the ring off the back of his latest success.
