Goodwood to Flamberge

10th G1 winner for Exceed And Excel

Fresh from almost two months away from the track, Exceed And Excel’s son Flamberge became the 10th G1 winner for his sire, surging late to claim the G1 Darley Goodwood Handicap over 1200m at Morphettville, the fourth Stakes victory for the five-year-old.

Travelling forward after jumping away well from the barriers to settle just behind the leader Lord Of The Sky, jockey Vlad Duric had the Peter Moody-trained gelding ready to strike as the field thundered around the home turn.

Flamberge gathered in the race leader Lord Of The Sky to win by three-parts-of-a-length, relegating the four-year-old to his second successive G1 second place finish.

Out of the G3 winner Razor Blade, the Contract Racing-bred and raced Flamberge is a full-brother to dual Listed-winning and G1 placed mare Curtana. The dam of six winners from six to race, earlier in the day at Caulfield the current three-year-old out of the mare, Durendal (Medaglia d'Oro) won his third career start.
