Golden Lad takes the Cornhusker

Son of Medaglia d'Oro gets fourth career stakes victory

Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, Medaglia d'Oro’s five-year-old son Golden Lad took the G3 Cornhusker Handicap at Prairie Meadows for his third stakes victory in five starts this year.  He had previously won the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn Park in February and was coming off a five-length score in the Mountainview Handicap at Penn National in his most recent start on May 30th.  This was his second career Graded Stakes win, having taken last year’s edition of the G3 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn.

In the nine-furlong Cornhusker, Golden Lad broke well and sat in third along the rail before beginning to move up around the turn.  He was able to run down the leader in deep stretch to win impressively by a length and a half.

Bred and owned by Paul Robsham’s Robsham Stables LLC, Golden Lad is out of the stakes winning Seeking the Gold mare Broadway Gold, and is a half-brother to G2 winner Broadway's Alibi and stakes winner R Gypsy Gold (Bernardini).

Golden Lad became Medaglia d’Oro’s 10th Graded or Group Stakes winner in 2015, which also include G1 Golden Slipper hero Vancouver, G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Mshawish, and G2 Azeri Stakes winner Gold Medal Dancer.

Medaglia d'Oro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST.
