Ghisoni stamps herself as a filly of the future after first Stakes win

Lonhro three-year-old leads all the way in the G2 Surround Stakes

Lonhro filly Ghisoni has lived up to the early wraps placed on her with an impressive return in the G2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 27.

Undefeated at her only two starts in her first campaign, the John O’Shea-trained three-year-old was taken to the lead by jockey James McDonald and was always travelling well, kicking strongly over the final 200m to win by 1.3 lengths.

Ghisoni is out of Red Ransom mare Portillo, herself a winner of the Surround Stakes and the G2 Magic Night Stakes as a juvenile, is from the family of talented stakes class sprinters Snowland and Snippetson. Ghisoni is Portillo’s second foal to race and has a weanling sister and is back in foal to Lonhro this season.

Ghisoni became Lonhro’s 58th Stakes winner, continuing a strong run of form for her sire after Healtherly won her first Stakes race in the G2 Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield on February 13.

Lonhro, who has sired seven G1 winners including star three-year-old colt Exosphere, stands at Kelvinside along with two G1-winning sons in Denman and Benfica.
