First Stakes victory for Helmet

Archives scores brilliant maiden win in Listed Hampden Stakes at Doomben

Helmet’s first crop have continued their recent run of success with Archives becoming his sire’s first Stakes winner in the Listed Hampden Stakes over 1200m at Doomben, 21 May.

A two-year-old colt, Archives settled just off the speed in the early stages. Entering the straight he found a run along the inside rails and proved his class, holding off late-finisher Jericho to claim a significant maiden victory.

The impressive colt was bred by Darley and is out of G1 winner Preserve, a half-sister to G1 Golden Rose winner and Darley stallion Denman. Archives is a half-brother to multiple G3 winner Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) and G2-placed Shaumari (Medaglia d'Oro).

Archives joins Tarnhelm as an Australian-bred winner for Helmet who has sired four European winners in Kreb’s Cycle, Boater, Chupalla and Orewa.

Helmet will stand the coming breeding season at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 inc. GST alongside his paternal half-brother Kuroshio who stands at a fee of $8,800 inc. GST.
