Epaulette becomes seventh G1 winner for Commands

Big finish to land the G1 Golden Rose

Darley-homebred Epaulette came with a last-to-first finish in the straight to power home and win the G1 Golden Rose over 1400m at Rosehill to become the seventh G1 winner for Commands. Epaulette defeated stablemate Albrecht in a 1,2 finish for Darley in the first Group 1 race of the season.

“That’s fantastic,” a beaming trainer Peter Snowden said. “He’s a high class colt and there’s still some improvement to come so that’s a super result.”

Epaulette followed Ambidexter’s win in the G2 Sebring Sprint earlier on the card to add to the days haul for Commands.

Bred by Darley, Epaulette is a three-quarter-brother to Exceed And Excel’s multiple G1 winner Helmet, who is standing his first season in 2012 at Darley Victoria alongside the G1 winner Skilled, another son of Commands.

Commands has sired seven Group 1 winners headed by the Queensland Oaks winner Purple and Doomben 10,000 winner Undue.

Commands stands at Darley Kelvinside where his fee in 2012 is $55,000 incl GST.
