Eighth G1 winner for Commands

Commanding Jewel wins the G1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield

At only her fifth start, three-year-old Commands filly Commanding Jewel became her sires’ eighth individual G1 winner, taking the G1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield on 17 October.

A three-quarter sister to last year’s Thousand Guineas winner, the unbeaten multiple G1 winner Atlantic Jewel, jockey Damien Oliver jumped the filly out of the barriers and sat mid-field before making her run as the field headed for home. Pouncing on the leader, Commanding Jewel went on to record an impressive two-and-three-quarter length victory over the G1 VRC Oaks-bound pair of Dear Demi and Zydeco.

Bred by Mr Greg Perry of NSW, Commanding Jewel is out of the Zabeel mare Regard, the dam of two to race, both winners at the elite level. Commanding Jewel is bred on the same cross as G1 winner Purple as well as G2 winners Altar and Rain Affair.

Having one of his best seasons to date, Commands has sired two individual G1 winners in the past five weeks with Epaulette taking out the G1 Golden Rose, as well as the G2 victories for Ambidexter and Lamasery.

Currently Australia’s leading sire on both prize money and Stakes winners, Commands is the sire of 50 individual Stakes winners and is standing the current season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 (inc. GST).
