Carrumba dances to victory in the G3 Top Flight Handicap

Daughter of Bernardini edges clear nearing the wire to earn first Graded Stakes win

Carrumba battled with pacemaker Mei Ling through the stretch before edging clear nearing the wire to win the G3 Top Flight Handicap by a half-length at Aqueduct.

It was the first Graded Stakes win for the four-year-old daughter of Bernardini, who improved her record to four wins and three seconds in seven lifetime starts.

Bred in Kentucky by the Phipps Stable, Carrumba is out of Castanet, a daughter of El Prado (Ire). Castanet is out of the G1-placed Dancinginmydreams, a full-sister to champion Heavenly Prize and G1 winner, Oh What a Windfall. Castanet is a half-sister to Dancing Forever, winner of the G1 Manhattan Handicap and G2 Elkhorn Stakes.

Carrumba continued what has been a fantastic weekend for her sire, Bernardini, whose three-year-old daughter, Lewis Bay, captured the G2 Gazelle Stakes on Saturday. Bernardini now has sired six Graded Stakes winners in 2016, placing him ahead of Tapit on the leading sire list. Bernardini is the sire of 46 Stakes winners, among them 13 G1 winners including Alpha, To Honor And Serve, Rachel’s Valentina, and Stay Thirsty
