Bathos the perfect ending for Poet’s Voice

A third winner in two days for Poet’s Voice as Bathos records his fourth consecutive victory

The smart colt Bathos gave his first-season sire Poet's Voice his third victory in two days when taking his own win tally to four consecutive victories with success in the 1m nursery at Newmarket on Thursday afternoon.

Smartly away under William Buick, the Mark Johnston-trained colt was always handily placed and took up the running with more than half of the race still to run. Approaching the final furlong, Strathearn (Halling) mounted a challenge, but Bathos dug in to repel the challenge and skipped clear to score easily by a length and three-quarters. Poet's Voice was also responsible for the third-placed Ronnie Baird who closed late to finish in the places.

Bathos, who races in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, began his winning streak at Beverley on August 13th before following up in a 1m nursery at Newmarket's July Course two weeks later. He then added a three-length victory in a nursery at Thirsk to his record 20 days ago.

Poet's Voice is the sire of 10 individual winners including the Stakes winner Whitman, another multiple scorer in Montsarrat and the impressive Italian filly Voice Of Love.
