Introduction
In 2003, Darley purchased Kelvinside Stud from well-known breeder and former jockey Hilton Cope. Now known as Darley, the farm was developed to accommodate our ever rapidly growing business. The same year the stallion facilities were completed.
Further outlining our commitment to the Australian thoroughbred industry, Darley purchased Northwood Park in 2006, a historic horse and cattle property located near Nagambie, Victoria. Able to accommodate a further 12 stallions, Northwood Park offers breeders in Victoria a paralleled service to that of Darley's Kelvinside farm.
Following Sheikh Mohammed's acquisition of Woodlands Stud in 2008, Darley now has a further two properties; Denman and Cootamundra, both of which currently stand stallions of the highest calibre.
All in all, Darley Australia currently stands 29 stallions over four properties, with the progeny of these world-class stallions going through the sale rings of Australia and New Zealand.
To support our world-class stallion roster, Sheikh Mohammed continues to import a number of mares from throughout the world and also purchases a small number of locally bred and raced mares.
Graduates of past Darley consignments include G1 winners Allow (Queensland Oaks), Camarilla (Sires' Produce Stakes) and Mission Critical (Whakanui Stud International Stakes); and, coupled with the success of Exceed And Excel's progeny such as the G3-winner Believe'n'succeed, G1 performer Excelltastic and the stakes placed Giotto, those yearling carrying the Darley brand have firmly establish themselves on the racetrack of Australasia.
With a stallion roster of the highest-standard, there was no surprise to see the recent Spring Carnival littered with stallion-progeny success; Rebel Raider (Reset) G1 victor of the VRC Derby, G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou (Street Cry), Wilander (Exceed And Excel) G2 sprinting sensation, along with further stakes winners Bernicia (Elusive Quality), Aichi (Strategic), El Cambio (Commands), and Noesis (Exceed And Excel) to name but a few.
We thank you for your continued support of our stallions and wish you every success at the sales in the coming months.
