Australia
Darley Australia currently stands 27 stallions.
Heading up the 2009 roster are two of the world’s hottest young stallions, Street Cry and Exceed And Excel. Sire of G1 winners from each of his first three crops including eight from his first two, Street Cry’s Australian runners are highlighted by Australia’s highest-rated three-year-old and outstanding G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou and G1 colt Predatory Pricer. Sensational Australian sprinter Exceed And Excel was last year’s Champion first season sire and is also sire of G1 Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort from his second crop. Both stallions will stand this season at Darley’s Kelvinside stud at Aberdeen in NSW.
Darley’s roster will be bolstered once again in 2009 with the addition of six first-season stallions. New Approach, European Champion two-year-old, multiple G1-winning three-year-old and the world’s highest rated racehorse of 2008, will head the new stallions and stand at Darley’s Northwood Park in Victoria. Joining the shuttle is G1-winning two-year-old and the best three-year-old in the world in 2007, Authorized; European Champion juvenile and dual G1 winner Teofilo who retired with his unbeaten record intact; Street Boss, America’s multiple record-breaking and multiple G1 winning speed horse by Street Cry; Europe’s Champion first-season sire of 2008, Kheleyf; and Musket, Makybe Diva’s G2-winning three-quarter brother by Redoute’s Choice.
World Champion three-year-old Bernardini will serve his second Australian book in the upcoming season and will be once again joined by another World Champion in multiple G1-winning sprinter Henny Hughes together with three of America's best three-year-olds in 2007, Street Sense, Any Given Saturday and Hard Spun.
Also standing his second season is Shaft, who was a brilliant two-year-old, making such an impression on his racecourse debut when winning the Silver Slipper.
Adding to the diverse roster are multiple G1 winners Dubawi, Shamardal and Tiger Hill; Danehill's impeccably-bred son Gonski, Blue Diamond winner Nadeem and Zabeel's unbeaten dual G1-winning son Reset.
Following Sheikh Mohammed's acquistion in 2008 of Woodlands Stud, Darley is proud to be standing 11-time G1 winner Lonhro, alongside an impressive line-up that comprises Strategic, Quest For Fame, Domesday, Commands, Canny Lad and Ad Valorem.
To support our world-class stallion roster in Australia, Sheikh Mohammed continues to import a number of mares from throughout the world and also purchases a small number of locally bred and raced mares.
Europe
Currently heading the line-up of ten stallions at Dalham Hall is the 2008 Derby winner New Approach, who was also the undefeated Champion juvenile of his year . He joins Singspiel, the globetrotting superstar who won the Dubai World Cup and Japan Cup who is now establishing himself as a top-class sire with seven G1 winners to his name already, and Manduro, the top-rated horse in the world in 2007. One of the most famous stallions to stand at Dalham Hall was Sheikh Mohammed’s favourite horse, Dubai Millennium. Born on the stud and trained in Newmarket, he also won the Dubai World Cup and was the sensational eight-length winner of the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. Upon his retirement from racing, he returned to the stud but sadly sired just one crop of foals before dying of grass sickness. His most talented son, Dubawi, who emulated his sire with victory in the Prix Jacques le Marois, now stands at Dalham Hall alongside his paternal half-brother Echo Of Light, who has his first foals on the ground in 2009.
Kildangan Stud in County Kildare, Ireland, is home to nine stallions, including leading sire Cape Cross, Breeders' Cup Classic winner Raven's Pass, 2007 Derby hero Authorized and Champion two-year-old Teofilo.
Japan
Darley Japan stands two-time Emirates World Champion Fantastic Light and record-breaking Japan Cup winner Alkaased. They, in addition to Rule Of Law, Diktat, Xaar and Storming Home, were recently joined by Dubai Duty Free winner and Japan’s top-rated racehorse, Admire Moon.
USA
The current roster of 16 stallions includes one of America's most exciting stallions, Street Cry. He is joined by two of his sons: the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense and dual G1-winning sprinter Street Boss. Two of Street Sense's best contemporaries on the track were the King's Bishop victor and Breeders' Cup Classic second Hard Spun and Any Given Saturday, who took the Haskell by four-and-a-half lengths. They too are Darley stallions.
World Champion Bernardini, who will be represented by his first yearlings at the sales later this year, will cover his third book of mares this year, together with top-class sprinter Henny Hughes and Rockport Harbor.
Eclipse Champion and Eclipse Champion-siring duo Cherokee Run and Holy Bull also stand at Darley, alongside Mr. Prospector’s record-breaking son E Dubai, Consolidator, G1-winning son of Storm Cat; Offlee Wild, winner of the G1 Suburban Handicap in 2005, and record-breaker miler Discreet Cat.
Leading sire Elusive Quality and Quiet American, who is fast establishing himself as an outstanding broodmare sire, complete the line up.
